Today we had a class full of Ravens, 10 of us were here and we were so excited to be together. In the morning we got to play a bit before snack time—today’s snack was potato and tea. We loved the tea so much, all of us kept asking for more. Then we had circle time with Ms. Devon; we talked about the date and the weather, and Ms. Devon taught us a game, “How are you? Tag” ~boy was it fun!
Soon it was time for our first class, Creative Inventions with Ms. Jasmine. Ms. Jasmine put three pictures on the white board and told us to write our names under the picture we liked best. Ms. Jasmine then explained to us about reflection. She told us that reflection is being able to see a picture in a mirror. She then gave us a copy of the picture that we had written our name under, and we drew a reflection of that picture on the paper. Next was English conversation with Ms. Devon, we made up stories using Story Bags. We divided into three groups and each group was given a story bag we worked together with our groups to make up a story, and then each group took turns, and came up to the front to the front to tell a story. We had a delicious lunch of rice, meat, vegetables, noodle salad and oranges, and then we had play time. After lunch we had Guided Play with Ms. Minha. First we did a warm up activity and then she gave us pom-poms and we dance to the song, “Micky” it was so much fun we wanted to do it again. After dance with Ms. Minha we had Numerical Fun with Ms. Jasmine. She taught us what a maze was, and we drew our own mazes. Finally we had, Theme Conversation with Ms. Devon and we did student reflection. We talked to Ms. Devon about how we feel about different aspects of school, and tomorrow we are going to tell our Student Reflections in front of the class. What a busy day^^

We were very surprised this morning when we found out that there would be only six of us in class, today. We started the day with bananas and soy milk for a snack, it was yummy. During the morning meeting, we practiced some phonics sounds with Ms. Jasmine, and used the phonics sounds to make new words.
Today, our first class was Discover with Ms. Jasmine, we made signs to hand on our bedroom doors at home. We were excited to make signs for our room, so all of us worked very hard to make sure our signs looked beautiful. Next, we had Conversational English with Ms. Devon. We talked about yesterday’s field trip to the fire station. We made fire station vocabulary cards, next we practiced our new words, and then we talked about our favorite things about visiting the fire station. Yay! It was time for lunch! We ate curry with rice, soup, kimchi, salad, mashed potato, and tomato. YUMMY!! After lunch, we played and cleaned up the classroom until it was time for Guided Play. With Ms. Minha we practiced ballet; we did some stretching, practiced foot positions and then practiced ballet jumps. After that, it was time for Theme Conversation with Ms. Jasmine. Ms. Jasmine gave us some time to finish up our room signs, and then we did phonics practice. Finally it was time for Theme class with Ms. Devon. Each of the Ravens had to answer the question, “What was your favorite part about visiting the fire station?” And they had to draw a picture of their favorite thing. One at a time, each student came to the front, and shared their favorite thing with the class. Finally, it was time to clean up, pack up, and say good bye to friends and teachers. What a wonderful day. Today was the Ravens' first day without Mr. Ryan, we missed him so much, but we are enjoying having Ms. Devon as our new teacher. We started the day with yogurt and cereal for a snack, and then put on our name tags, and lined up for our field trip. Then, we boarded the school bus and headed for the fire station. When we arrived at the fire station we saw a big, red firetruck, and we said hello to the firemen. We walked through the fire station and went out into the yard were we sat down, out of the sun, and listen to the fireman explain fire safety rules to us.
First, we learned about fire extinguishers, and then we go a chance to use one. We went up to the fire extinguishers, four at a time, we stood in front of a picture of a fire, and we aimed and sprayed water at the picture. After everyone had a turn with the fire extinguishers, the fireman explained the safest way to exit a burning building. Ravens, with Ms. Jasmine and Ms. Devon, went into a dark, foggy room. We had to cover our mouths and walk through the room until we found the exit, and we were outside again. Next, we learned how to escape a burning building using an escape elevator. We climb up some stirs to the escape elevator. The fireman showed us how the elevator worked, and then we stepped on to the elevator, two and a time, and rode the escape elevator down to safety. At first we were a little bit scared to try this, but Ms. Jasmine and Ms. Devon told us that we would be safe, and that it would be fun. They were right! It was so much fun we wanted to go on the elevator one more time! Finally, the fireman showed us how to use a fire hose to put out a fire. We were able to help the fireman use the firehose, we loved it! We got a bit wet while using the firehose, but the water felt so nice on such a hot day! After that we thanked the fireman for teaching us about fire safety, and we got to play, ‘What time is it, Mr. Wolf?’ before boarding the bus and heading back to CBIS. When we arrived back to our classroom lunch was waiting for us, and we were hungry. We ate fish and veggies with rice, kimchi, seaweed soup, pasta, and melon. It was delicious!! After lunch, we played and cleaned up the classroom until it was time for Recess with Mr. Tom. After that, it was time for book Numerical Fun with Ms. Jasmine. And then Theme Conversation with Ms. Devon, were we discussed today’s field trip, and took turns sharing what we learned and what we enjoyed. What a fun and exciting day we had today! Welcome back from Summer Vacation, Ravens! We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing time with family and friends, and now we’re ready to get back to work… And FUN! We started the day with zucchini soup for a snack, and during the morning meeting, we changed the weekly jobs. We were such a small class today with only seven students, so a lot of jobs were missing! Oh well~ Then, for our first class of the day, we went up to the big gym and played around with balls and Frisbees until we were tired. Next, we returned to the classroom for a conversation class about our vacations. First, the Ravens each drew a picture of something they did during the vacation week. Then, when everyone was finished, we went to the mat to sit down and listen to each other’s fun activities that they did. A lot of Ravens went to the swimming pool and hotels. Some even went far away to places like Daegu, Busan, and Jeju Island! That sounded like so much fun! After hearing about everyone’s vacation, it was time for lunch, and today, we ate meat and veggies with rice, soup, kimchi, seaweed salad, tofu, and oranges. YUMM!! After lunch, we played and cleaned up the classroom until it was time for drama class. In the role play class, we practiced the lines from the play, and we sang the fun songs together. After that, it was time for book presentations. Each of the seven Ravens that were here today came to the front, one at a time, and shared their story from the last two weeks because of the vacation week. They had so much time to practice, and they all did an excellent job reading :) Finally, to say goodbye to Mr. Ryan, we had a snack party and shared cookies, potato sticks, and cookie balls. Then, we all sat on the mat with popcorn to watch Super Bad 3! We were so excited! At last, though, it was time to say goodbye. I can’t express how sad I am to leave the Raven class, and I am going to miss everyone so much, but I really hope that I will have a chance to teach some of the Ravens again one day if I return to Korea. I love everyone here so much, and the Ravens are so lucky to have Ms. Jasmine, and now Ms. Devon, as well, as their teachers. Please, Ravens, continue to be the amazing students that you are already, and have a wonderful time the rest of the year, and good luck in first grade next year! Goodbye Ravens! I Love You~
Yesterday, we had the sad duty of saying goodbye to one of our beloved Ravens, Lion :( It was his last day, but we had such a wonderful time with so many fun activities before our Summer Vacation. We began in the morning with a sandwich and milk for a snack, and we read books and played on the mats until it was time for class. Then, we got to meet our new teacher, Ms. Devin :) Ms. Devin introduced herself and told about her life in Canada and Korea, and the students had a great time asking her questions. We also talked about what we were all going to do during the Summer Vacation next week, and it sounds like everyone is going to have lots of fun :) Then, we had an early lunch in the cafeteria because we had to be ready to go outside for Bus Painting! We ate mini hot dogs and veggies, rice, soup, potato salad, kimchi, and tomatoes. Delicious! After lunch, we got ready to go outside and paint the big #1 bus (and each other!) First, we mixed the paint, and everyone started painting the bus. At first, the kids started out pretty calm, just dipping one finger into the paint and drawing something on the side of the bus, but little by little, it got messier and messier, and soon, the kids were throwing paint all over the place, each other, and even the teachers. Mr. Ryan was SO scared to carry the camera to take pictures, but the excitement was too much to not capture by photo :) There was paint flying everywhere, water being sprayed, and the kids were having so much fun, that they didn’t want to finish, even though it was so hot outside! But we did need to end so that we could get cleaned up :( We washed off and headed back to class where we changed and got ready for gym. We had gym in the small gym with Mr. Tom and played some circle games with silly hand and footprint toys. The games were very simple, just running in circles, but the kids really had lots of fun :) After gym, we came back to the classroom and watched movies and played while the girls went to finish cleaning off their paint first, and the boys second. At the end of the day, we said goodbye to Lion and presented him with our class goodbye card, with pictures and notes from each student and teacher. Lion, we are going to miss you so much, and we hope you are so happy at your new school! Please visit us anytime and remember all the loving friends you made during your long time at CBIS :) We will always remember you~ It’s now time for vacation, so everyone have a safe and fun time, and we’ll see you back in the Raven class on Monday :)
Our week is almost over, but we had so much fun on this hot Thursday :) We also had some special visitors to our classroom. We began with veggies and sliced cheese for a snack, and during the morning meeting, we finished trying to draw the picture of a space scene by just listening to Mr. Ryan describe it. Then, we finally got to see what the picture really looked like! As we were finishing and looking at all of the pictures next to the real one, we got a visit from some of Mr. Ryan’s friends who are visiting from Seattle in the USA :) They are both teachers, and as they are leaving to go back to Korea today, they were so excited to meet the Raven class :) Their names are Mr. Brian and Ms. Madison. Mr. Brian helped to pick out the top three pictures that looked like the real one, and then he read the Ravens a story on the mat. We also heard a story from Ms. Madison before it was time for them to go. The Ravens were really lucky to meet them, and they were very nice :) Soon, it was time for an art activity, and since tomorrow will be Lion’s last day in the Raven class, we started working on some goodbye cards for him. Then, it was time for lunch, and we ate meat and rice with soup, kimchi pancakes, anchovies, radish kimchi, and oranges. Delicious!! After lunch, we cleaned up the classroom and played for a bit until it was time for dance class. We went up to the dance room and practiced all the cute dances, and the students even got to dance with the pompoms :) When everyone was tired, we returned to the classroom for Jiwoo Lee’s birthday party. Today is not her real birthday, but since that is during the vacation week next week, we celebrated today :) We ate cake, drank juice, had a chocolate kiss, and then we drew pictures. We also had a surprise from Ms. Jasmine. We walked outside in the really hot weather to the convenience store down the street, and Ms. Jasmine let all the Ravens pick out an ice cream. Thank you Ms. Jasmine!! The students ate their cold ice cream as we walked back to school where we watched Boss Baby some more on the mat until it was time to go home. That was our day, and we had so much fun even though it was so hot. Happy Birthday, Jiwoo Lee! See you all tomorrow morning, Ravens!
We had such a great day with our field trip to V-Center! When the Ravens arrived, we read book logs, played, and had a piece of bread cake for a snack, and then we got ready to go on the bus. It didn’t take long to get there, and soon, we were getting off and walking up a little hill to go to V-Center :) First, we waited to use the bumper cars! Four by four, the Ravens got in their own car and they were bumping each other again and again. They had so much fun trying to maneuver the cars. After that, we went outside to take pictures with robots. Next, we went back inside and got to ride the giant robots :) Then, it was time for the robot museum. Inside the museum, there were tons of toy robots on display in cases, and we made our way to the jumping room. We took off our shoes and all went in the giant balloon playground. There was a slide, and the workers also played with the kids, and they had so much fun :) After that, it was time for the 4D movie. We went into a big auditorium and took our seats before the seatbelt came down and the lights went out. A big screen opened, and the seats started shaking as our robot ship took off! We had to fight some bad guys, and in the end, we won! YAY!! The last activity was a wall climbing room. Each student got to put on a harness, and the workers helped them to climb up the wall. It was really fun! That was the end of our field trip, so we got back on the bus and made our way back to CBIS. There, we ate lunch, and the lunch today was meat and mushrooms in sauce with rice, soup, seaweed, kimchi, and watermelon. YUMM!! After lunch, we had some play time while the cleaners cleaned up. Finally, for one last activity, we dried the drawing game where Mr. could only see the picture and tell about it, and the students had to try to draw the same picture based on the description. Tomorrow morning, we will see the real picture and look at who was the closest to the real thing :) We had so much fun today, and we still have more fun activities for the end of the week, including a birthday party tomorrow! See you in the morning, Ravens!
It was another fun day for the Ravens, and our week is going nicely :) We started the day with porridge for a snack, and during the morning meeting, we had a choice to read books or play snakes and ladders. Then, for our first class, we went down to the music room for class with Ms. Nicole. We learned some more about the different kinds of notes, and we watched some fun videos about the music adventure :) After music class, we returned to the classroom to have a language arts class with the phonics books. We continued to work on the activities in the book with some listening and writing work. The Ravens are doing an excellent job working in the books. Next, it was time for lunch, and today, we ate fish and rice with soup, kimchi, eggs, and bean sprouts. YUMM!! Then, after lunch, we cleaned up and played for a little while until it was time for gym. We went to the big gym today for class with Tom Teacher, and the Ravens learned some new, fun warm ups and stretches. They got to run around for a while until they were tired and it was time to go back to class. Our next lesson was numerical fun, and we got to use the scale to learn how different things weigh. Each student got to go around the classroom and pick out some objects and see which was heavier. They had so much fun looking around the room and weighing things. Finally, for our last activity of the day, we played the fun conversation game that the students love where one student is the king, and the others have to have conversations and play rock, paper, scissors to try to take the kings place. They love the game so much, and they were so sad when it was time to finish and pack up to go home. Don’t worry, we will play it again :) That was it for our day. Tomorrow, we have a fun field trip planned, so rest up and we’ll see you in the morning :)
Welcome back, Ravens! Today, we shared what we did on the weekend, and it sounds like everyone had a good rest and did some fun things :) We started off our morning with a potato and apple juice for a snack, and then we changed our jobs during the morning meeting. Then, for our first class, we went to the big gym to play and run around. The Ravens got balls, Frisbees, and other fun toys, and they ran around the gym until everyone was really tired. Next, we went back to the classroom for a conversation class where each student got to tell about their weekend. We also got to hear all about Cindy’s amazing trip to Jeju Island, and it sounds like she had a great week :) Soon, it was time for lunch, and today, we ate meat and rice with soup, kimchi, squid, and oranges. Delicious! After lunch, we had some play time, and we cleaned up the classroom to get ready for a phonics lesson. We got out our books and continued working on the written activities. Then, it was time for book presentations, and each Raven got to read a few pages from their book logs from last week. As usual, they all did an excellent job reading. Finally, we had one more conversation class to finish talking about our weekend. Today, Mr. Ryan had some sad news to share with the Ravens. As I shared with parents earlier, I will be moving to China in August to be a fourth grade teacher, and I wanted to let the students know how sad I am to have to say goodbye :( I know they will continue to be the wonderful boys and girls they are already, and I hope to keep connected and know how they are doing in the future. We still have a couple more weeks to have fun, so let’s enjoy the time! See you all tomorrow :)
It’s Friday! Today was our Around the World event, and we had so much fun! We began with a quick snack of bananas and tomatoes, and then we got ready to begin the event. We stayed in our room first to do the South Korea activities. One group made kimbap with Ms. Jasmine using rice, veggies, ham, and seaweed. The other group did an art activity with Mr. Ryan using a rock and paint. The rock was painted white on one side, so the students used red, blue, and black paint to make the Korean flag. Most of them came out really nice! When everyone was done, we switched groups so everyone could have a chance to do both. Next, we went to the Chickadee class where the room was set up like an airport. The students did a fun security activity, and they did a passport activity as well. Finally, the students went to the Gyrfalcon class, which was set up as Canada. They made really cute Canadian flags using Canada maps, and they also made inuksuk, which had fruit and vegetables on skewers. The event went so smoothly, and the kids had lots of fun, and lots of food :) Next, it was time for lunch, and we ate duck meat, soup, salad, potatoes, kimchi, veggies, and watermelon. YUMM!!! After lunch, we cleaned and played until it was time to go to gym. The students learned how to play handball with Tom Teacher in gym class, and they did so well. They had lots of fun :) Next, we had a conversation class and did Around the World story bags. We prepared the stories, but we will work on them more and share them next week. Finally, we had book buddies with the Blue Jays, and the Blue Jays read to the Ravens, too! They are so impressive! Soon, our day was over. We were so busy today, but everyone had lots of fun :) Now it’s the weekend, so have fun, and we’ll see you back here on Monday!
